Week 8 Comments and Feedback
Overall, I would rate the quality of the feedback I have received anywhere from 8/10 to 9/10. Most of the comments have been very helpful and specific and I think the various feedback readings and methods suggested in this course have helped people create better comments as the semester progresses. The comments I find more helpful are ones were they say what they like about the post and also give ideas or suggestions for how to better the post. I find these comments to be the most balanced and helpful, personally. Specific suggestions in particular, ones that are well-thought out, are the most helpful.
The quality of my feedback is probably about 7/10 to 8/10. I am getting better at leaving actually helpful comments on writing and have found the strategies mentioned in this course to be particularly helpful in the process. Leaving comments helps me to be more engaged in reading others' posts, as I have to read carefully enough to come up with comments and suggestions at the end. I also really like getting to read everyone's posts and find that commenting helps me remember people's names and things about them better than I would if we did not have to comment on their introductions and stories. I have also found some cool ideas for my own stories by reading others' posts, such as using a reporter-like style to retell a story.
I do feel like the comments let us connect with each other better, though of course no one really has the time to answer all or even most of the comments. I enjoy reading people's feedback about my posts and seeing all of the suggestions on how to make my writing better or the layout of my website better. I have also come to know people's writing styles, names, and some things about them due to commenting--saying "Hey, so-and-so" really helps me remember names and commenting on people's introductions and stories helps me remember some basic things about them and their writing style. Commenting proved to be far more useful and enjoyable than I originally thought it would be.
I don't really want to make any changes to my introduction or my comment wall, but I have definitely used people's suggestions in my writing and in my storybook project. As far as my own comments go, I am still working on making them more useful for people--I have never been very good at giving feedback so, even though I have gotten a lot better in this course, I still struggle with it a bit. Using the methods mentioned in this course have really helped and I think I just need to practice with them a bit more.
